Hi, I just got my first detector this year for Christmas, I have been saving up for one for a few months but got one as a surprise gift. It's a BH3300; not the exact model i was looking at but i have been enjoying it and who can complain about a free detector? I have only been detecting in my yard so far and have come up with only clad and a small metal spoon.
I have some questions and from what I've read here in the last few months this seems like the place to ask em. First off, i notice that the 3300 doesnt seem to stay ground balanced and the pinpoint mode will buzz when it's too close to the ground. I dont know if this has to do with soil conditions or my particular detector, i guess i will learn more when i get it out into the field. Also i notice when i have the sensitivity over 2 bars i get iron hits EVERYWHERE, i mean every swing and when i dig there is nothing there. im really interested in finding silver coins and my house is on the oldest settled area in my town, but i dont think im going to get the depth at such low sensitivity. Also im getting a pinpointer because my lawn looks like a war was fought on it. Any suggestions on keeping the plugged holes tidy? even after i put the dirt back in, there is always a ring of dirt on the lawn.. any tips or tricks would be appreciated, i have already browsed most of these forums thoroughly and am very impressed with the overall attitude. Oh and i am in Lindenhurst, NY on long island. Thanks!

Over on the techniques section there is an illustrated post on digging plugs without doing much damage to the lawn. It sounds like you haven't read your manual about discrimination and sensitivity. Go back and re read that section and it will answer most of your questions. Also look on the Bounty Hunter evaluation section, lots of posts on the 3300. Monty

Thanks for the fast reply and the info about the plug digging, i definitely read the manual repeatedly, but there isn't much detail. If anyone knows of another source of info on discrimination and sensitivity with a bh3300 i would definitely be interested, i also read all the reviews in the review section, and on other sites, i have seen a few comments where people notice that the ground balance goes a little crazy. Again, thanks for the info!

Dead,

welcome to the board.

Hope we will be seeing some of your finds.

Sometimes even with Sens. turned way down, the detector talks to you when it shouldn't. Assuming it wasn't dropped in the store or by UPS, you can check your coil wire for any cuts or such and make sure it is plugged it right. Take out your batteries and make sure they are all the same type and new then reinsert them making sure they are facing the right way. Wish I would always do that. Take the detector for a ride to the country where there are no electric wire or motors to make interference. If you still can't get it to quiet down to a normal threshold and operation, send it back to Bounty Hunter or exchange it where you got it. The next person that buys it will have the same problem too.

Good Luck,
Sandman
