New to hunting

I'm new to treasure hunting I have been spending the last 6 months researching and looking at old maps getting a plan and an area together I plan on looking for several of the ships that have reportedly sunk along the southern coast of texas. I need help deciding on a good underwater detector, I need to get one that is of good quality and as cheap as possible. I understand that a new unit would be ideal but can't justify the cost of one at this time. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Not that I'm sure if this can help you,but I got my underwater metal detector from E-bay.. Retail at 289.99 and got it for 152.50.
