All Treasure Hunting
Hello everyone! I am new to metal detecting, in fact I do not own a metal detector yet! I will be purchasing a Garrett AT Pro within the next few months. I guess there's no hurry really since winter is almost here. I am hoping to get my grand daughter interested in metal detecting as well, I think the first time she digs up something that sparkles or shines she will be hooked.

before spending big money buy a cheap one...alot of guys buy them and dont have alot of spare time...it takes hours upon hours to really get to know ur machine. myself and others hunt 5-20+ hours a week...but if u do have the time and the willingness to come home empty handed and LOTS of garbage....welcome to the club lol...and the Pro is a wonderful machine!

I went the route that NEPA mentioned. I started out with an El Cheapo detector and got hooked. If I didn't get bitten by the MD bug, I would have only had $80 invested. The bug bit and the cheap detector paid for itself in 45 days. I then moved to a mid level detector. In 4 short months it paid for itself. I was obsessed and wanted a top of the line detector so that is where I am now. My current F75LTDSE paid for itself when I dug 1 coin (see my banner find). Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

Well, I guess I spoke erroneously with my first post... I have had a metal detector before... I did own a cheapo Radio Shack model that I found some relics with until I stored it in my shed over the winter due to having no space in my home for storage. When spring came it never worked again. And then I had a Viper Trident for a short time, but sold it when we decided to move out of Illinois and buy a house in Wisconsin. So I am familiar with metal detecting, if only slightly! I thought this may be a hobby that would go hand in hand with my other hobby of photography, and my love of long since abandoned places.

Thanks, I've been doing quite a bit of research and it seems to fit the bill for me, and I like their pro pointer a well.
