I recently moved to the Ozarks and rented a home for the first year over buying. My landlord owns about 1500 acres of forest behind my rental and I was given permission to roam free, with detector and in the creek beds. Found this today, I think it's a Native American artifact?

It’s pretty big for a net weight, but maybe.

I don't know about that, but that creek looks like it would be loaded.

IMG_20180515_235616964.webp some other stuff I pulled out of my pouch, I think it's a piece of pottery and some flakes..

Posted a pic of couple other things that i found in the same bend of the creek

It could possibly be a mortar, as in mortar and pestle but I'm not sure. They were used to crush and grind grains and nuts for food preparation.

Heading back out now, ill post what i find there again when I get back. Thanks for looking.

The first piece looks natural but it appears as though there are 2 worked pieces of the 5 from the pouch, though I see nothing resembling pottery. Regardless, it looks like you are onto a good area so it's just a matter of time until you find some points, good luck!

looks like a lid you could pry off

The first thing is natural. Most other stuff is natural - the rocks with holes and such. What you're calling pottery, if it is pottery, is not indian pottery. Looks like you may have some debitage/waste flakes. The creek is nice looking... I can smell the wet rocks and plants just by looking at that photo!

Just a matter of time, Nate.

Thumb scraper and it looks like it is made from Reeds Spring flint. Nice stuff. Some is all greenish, some has green and grey and is called "camo Reeds". Gary

Congrats on scoring 1500 acres to hunt on...with the worked pieces, you know what that means...people! I'd give my left arm to have 1500 virgin acres to roam around on, are there any caves there? Something tells me you're pretty excited, so I'll keep my eye out for your coming posts...Ddf.
