What would be a good metal detector for beginners under $300 for relic hunting etc?

welcome to t-net....... the only detector that comes to mind for under 300 is the garrett ace 250.. i dont know how good it is at relic hunting but most people say it is a good beginner detector...

You have to consider the soil conditions where you live, if the ground is hot (Virginia, NC SC )
you'll need a whites

I just got my first detector, an Ace 250, as a totally unexpected birthday gift from my father. I really like the machine, even though I've only found pull tabs and sheet metal screws in the few times I've used it.

I'd consider doing this - check out Kellyco - they have a pre-owned metal detector area on their site- they have some good deals there (so much so I know where I'm getting my next detector!) and their customer service is top notch.

Myself, I have used a Tesoro Silver Umax and still do. It's an outstanding machine and will only run you $239 shipped. Comes with a lifetime warranty, and Tesoro is still a family run business with unbeatable service. #1 in my book.

I recently bought a Fisher F75 from Mike at Wooland Detectors and can say, you won't beat his service or price. If you look around Treasurenet, you will see that others are also 100% happy with Mike and his service.
Try getting personal service from a big box store!
