I've been metal detecting since the mid 70's. My first detector was a Compass and later I bought a Fisher 1266-XB. You didn't need a pinpointer with the Compass I had but the Fisher is another story.
The Fisher is almost too much for around my house, a 1790 farmhouse. The ground is loaded with early junk like rose head nails, cut nails, horseshoes, oxen shoes, farm tools, buckles and lots of newer stuff too.
I particularly like early wrought iron and blacksmith made pieces.
Connecticut is not metal detector friendly but there are a lot of good early private sights.
