Hey folks,
I have a new permission- a 'Century Farm' in NE MO. I got to spend several minutes there today and found some junk (tho it's NOT junky) and a couple of UFOs (Unearthed Foreign Objects).
So, any input on these would be appreciated!

I grew up on a dairy. We used ear tags for our cows that were just like #87. It seems a little smaller than I remember so maybe it is for sheep or goats.

Any find is always a good find. Which detector is your preference for fields?

Nice!! Congrats!!

I think you mean Unidentified Found Objects. There is no evidence that they are foreign :laughing7:

Well, I like the Simplex+, but I honestly don't have much experience to base my opinion on... I have only had a TID machine for less than a month now, and the Sears (White's 5000 CM) that I used before was made in the mid-70s, lol!
BUT, the Fisher F22 we got for my boy has a much smaller (4-9"?) coill and the Sears unit only had an 8" concentric, so I very much prefer the 11" DD coil, since it covers more ground and fields are pretty big!
Not knocking the Fisher or the White's tho, they have BOTH found good targets in large areas.

#87 is a sheep tag. That's what they were used for in my area anyway. Here is one I found sometime back. It has the USFS emblem on it. A way for the FS to make sure the animals on a particular allotment had the required vaccinations. I think it was an effort to protect bighorn sheep from domestic sheep diseases. People moved and still do move animals from lower elevations (winter range) onto FS grazing allotments in the summer. Although many farms and ranches used them for other reasons....

Pig tag is my guess! I detected a pig farm a few years ago and dug many of those items.:icon_thumleft: They sound so good! :BangHead:

Thanks Guys!

Well sheep or pigs, it came from the ear of a domesticated animal that was smaller than a cow! And YES! It sounded like something I wanted! But- No longer a UFO!
Anyone got a clue on the disc? My first thought was maybe a florescent light bulb end, but I'd think there should be glass or a seal or something...

Maybe the back to a thermometer? The coil attached to the small pin?

Unique, nice finds!

You could sell that pig tag on the streets of NYC as jewelry. It's amazing what these kids will stick in their faces.
Congratulations

LOL! That is funny and probably TRUE- sadly!
I actually had a young woman ('girl' to me now- changing baselines) come up to me on the street one day and ask me where I got those 'cool' coveralls. Now, mind you, these are a light blue herringbone weave, with a LOONG body (so the crotch goes halfway to my knees (UGLY!). I told her they were my work clothes from Ford Motor Co. She asked 'Well, where can I get a pair of them?' I said "Get a job at Ford!" She visibly recoiled and exclaimed 'Eww! I don't want to work THERE! I heard it was HARD work!' Now, WHO on earth could think that these are 'cool'? Just the people who will be RUNNING our country, in the next decade or so!
