This has been happening quite a bit even after checking and re-insertion of batteries. They are the Minelab supplied and after few hours use battery indicator shows 2 of 3 bars. One time I shook the detector and it turned off, but a button press turned it back on which is suspicious. Might have to return to vendor but want to be sure.

It’s the batteries getting shaken inside. Put a piece of foam between the batteries and the lid to stop them from moving.

Sounds like an easy fix, you’re brilliant cause minelab didn’t think to do it. Lol

It drive me nuts trying to figure out wtf was happening.

Hmm. My reply just disappeared. Hope this doesn't double post.

Rechargeable batteries are normally slightly larger than alkalines and using them was enough to stop the problem for me. I went ahead and put some foam in for good measure.

That problem aside. I've got about 50 or 60 hours on mine and it just keeps getting better. Target separation and I.D. is killer. Really loving this machine.

I recently got a 540 and the same thing happens to me. At least once a hunt it just powers off. I power it back on and it's fine....still annoying though.

I will take a pic of the fix for it. It fixed mine and never shut off again.

The way to test it is see if it shuts off by setting it down like out in the field.
