Haven't done any detecting since I was a kid. I think I'm going to get the xterra 705 but I'm having trouble deciding on the stock 7.5 KHz concentric coil or the double-D 18.? KHz. At first I'll be using it mostly on the beach, but after a couple of years could be in any terrain. One concern I have about the double-D is that it is a solid coil. Will this make it more difficult to pinpoint because I won't be able to see the ground underneath?

Thanks for any advice or thoughts.

Esp. for beach go with the HF DD coil, it'll work fine on land too. PP off the tip seems to work.

There are 3 18.75KHz DD coils.

6" round (waterproof) Trash king and will hit very small targets
5x10 eliptical (water resistant) Great seperation and covers more ground than the 6"
10.5" round (water resistant) I own the 7.5Khz of this coil and it is better for Iron disc with a little less seperation.

The stocker is waterproof. I have rarely used after using the DDs but I do hear it is better for Iron disc.

Definately get the elliptical DD. It ground balances better than the stock coil. I have used mine in nothing but water (salt and fresh) and have not had any problems. The new larger DD are supposed to be great for the beach as well allowing more ground cover. Haven't tried one yet. Good luck.

Pinpointing the 10.5 DD MF/HF coil is very simple and I never touch the pinpoint button. When you hit a TID simply shorten your swing and gradually move the coil back toward your feet. When the sounds stops the TID will be on the front edge of the coil. Works every time and very accurate. HH TomB
