New yard to check, war service ship builder's pin, pocket watch fragments....

2009_1012thisweeksfinds0002.webp2009_1012thisweeksfinds0004.webp2009_1012thisweeksfinds0005.webp2009_1012thisweeksfinds0006.webp I recently received permission to search a neighbor's yard. Had some high hopes as it was built circa 1750. I did find two flat buttons right off the bat (forgot to get pics of them) and then signals got scarce. It seems there was some landscaping done at some point, and part of the yard had been torn up for sewer lines. Did find an interesting glass marble reflector (?), tin alloy acorn spinning top toy (?), a copper name tag and war service pin (WW1 or 2?) and a single 1944 wheatback. The pocket watch was an interesting find, lodged neatly under a tree root. the pieces were together, but no face or back. Any knowledge about it would be helpful (It says "Dean" and "Springfield"). Thanks for looking!

I think the Illinois Watch Co's Dean movements were from 1876. It was a good quality watch at one time...

That's some really cool finds...I really like the pin....

Cool finds

The war service pin is from WWI. If you look closely there should be a serial number on the back. I've found one as well and I've been trying to find some sort of employee list but with no luck so far. I Believe these are from the shipyard on Hogs Island in Philadelphia which in now mostly the Philly airport.

Google Hog Island. Interesting read.

It is also where the term Hoagie originated

Unique bunch of finds congrats!

Thanks guys -especially Nick and Bob for the info. Interesting!
