I am new to metal detecting. I would like help with selecting my first detector, somewhere in the $500.00 range +/-. A good all around detector. Thank you for any and all help.

If you can go check out a few different detectors in person, test them out.
You also need to figure out what type of hunting you want to do with it, coin & jewelry, relics, gold, etc., most detectors will do but some are better at certain things than others. Also will you be hunting mostly parks, fields, schools, or beaches? The more info you have as to what you want and where you want to hunt will help you choose one that suit your needs. Also where you live may have highly mineralized soil. But most of all what ever you choose have fun.

You may want to check out the videos here on the subject and previous threads that people have ask the same question and see what answers were given.

Welcome from florida.

Hi Marley123; Try the Whites line of detectors. You won't be sorry. You can even get top of the line ones used for about $500 - 600. They are all guaranteed as well ok. Good Luck. PEACE:RONB

I have used Garrett GTAx 1000(old model), Garrett Ace 250, Garrett At Pro, Teknetics Gamma 6000, Bounty Hunter(don't remember the model now), and now mostly use Minelab Explorer SE Pro. If you wish, I can give you my personal opinion on all these.
