Hey, I'm pretty new to metal detecting. I found a piece of what looked like gravel the other day, but it
Set my detector off. Is that a common thing? Or is this unusual? Just curious to see if I've found something unique.

I busted up the piece of granite. It did have quartz in it.

Hmmm....I've heard that pieces of meteorite will set a MD off. Does it stick to a magnet?

I've had all kinds of different rocks set off my metal detector.

I ran a magnet though it some of the finer paricles. Picked up some small stuff. Figured it was iron ore. I've never had a rock set off my md before. Just thought it was unusual. But from what I've been reading...it's pretty common. I've also heard if you find quartz, there maybe gold flakes hiding somewhere.

Not always true because there is a TON of quartz and no to EXTREMELY EXTREMELY EXTREMELY LITTLE gold where I live.
