I've always collected stuff since I was a child. Bought a metal detector last year and love it. But I have recently grown interested in bottles and have purchased a few and was given some. Plus my dad being a plumber finds his share of bottles underneath houses and brings them home. All that being said I am dying to dig a privy or dump. I've read everyones threads and saw the interesting stuff being pulled from them. Being from a rural part of NC there should be a fair share of privies around here to dig. I know I need a good probe for starters. How do you find these dumps and privies? Any fellow NC board care to invite me on a dig? I need all the teaching I can get. Any help or info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

PS...I'm 29 years old. I know a majority of this hobby is older but is it normal for someone as young as me to like to do these things? None of my friends are interested. Not that it bothers me. :)

I do not think that age matters much to bottle diggers. I started as a teenager when I found old dumps while squirrel hunting. As to finding old bottle dumps just get out and look around. With experience will come wisdom. Good luck and good hunting.

Welcome DustyB! I will be more than happy to meet up with you for a good dig. I currently live in the Wilmington area, and I also have free time to drive for a dig if no one can make it down here. PM me, or just respond onto this thread and we'll see if we can set something up.

DB,

Welcome to the board.

Good luck on starting to look for bottles.
It's a blast. Just keep your eyes open and
the finds will come.

As for your statement,
"is it normal for someone as young as me to like to do these things? "
