Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
So I got my first detector off of eBay, an old one that probably isnt the best one on the planet.....I know for sure. Of all the digs that me and my son did, we found some aluminum siding, three pull tabs, and a tire rim buried about a foot under ground. Other than that, no money, no honey....but a bunch of fun. Also found the property marker on the corner of my property....I am thinkin I need a better detector....plus I need to learn how to use this one better! The detector is a XR8 Smarttracker....any advice?

Thanks

Welcome littlejohn, You probably have read countless posts on best detectors. My self as a newb detector an even an intermediate and a good all around park machine would be Ace250 but that is just my opinion. they run about 212.00

I have a Tesoro Silver Umax on the way, this one was just to get started and see how it all works.

I have one and can tell you it's one of the best.

Enjoy that silver umax, it will find just about everything.

I am looking forward to digging more than just pull tabs....for sure. Of course my neighbor had to come over and give me a hard time about finding aluminum siding pieces. He said "Heck if you find enough of that siding you can buy a case of beer because aluminum is 30+ cents a pound. Joining a local metal detecting club this coming weekend....hope to learn from those who already know what they are doing.

good little machine, I still have mine as a back-up :icon_thumright:

It does take a while to get use to a machine you know nothing about. You might try looking on the internet for the company that made it and see if there is any thing on where to set the knobs and such for tuning it.
Another thing is there might not be any coins where you looked.

One thing I have3 found out already after using the silver is that it has much better depth and much better discrimination. I will continue to work with the XR8 but this Tesoro has me spoiled already.

silver umax is a great little machine that is what i stared with and wish that i had never sold it or left tesoro recently was able to get a tesoro cortes and am i ever glad

Did some more detecting this morning and found a bottle cap(aluminum) and a few more pieces of siding corners. I think my next gig is to get a pinpointer, as I am not always able to find what is in the hole without making a crater in my yard. I am using a long screwdriver to "pop" these items to the top, but I am not 100% accurate yet, so I believe a pinpointer will help.

Welcome to Treasurenet forum !! :hello:
this is the time to stop this addiction that unites people around the world in friendship and healthy competition ....... before finding its first silver coin if it will not be too late.
