Hi folks, newbie from all the way across the big pond in the UK. Been out panning a few times but not having much luck.
Can anyone offer any advice as to the most likely places to start prospecting in the picture below?
Decided to focus on this section as the river is mostly straight until this sections with the bends and gravel bars. It runs downstream left to right.
Thanks.

Look for the areas near the inside bends where the water slows and creates small eddy areas. Look in those same places for areas where the bedrock is more exposed under the water and any "drop off" pools just below that shallow bedrock. Look UP on the "benches" along the banks on those inside turns for evidence of old flooding hardpack.

I noticed this is your first post - so, welcome aboard from the great state of Pennsylvania (USA)!

You might consider browsing Sub-Forums: United Kingdom for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state.

I would start at the right hand 1/4 of the picture. The river is narrow there with rapids and big boulders, indicating shallow bedrock. Also appears to be
landform fault lines? which may show more exposed bedrock. Thats where I would start sampling. Good Luck.

Welcome to tnet! This place is awesome! Anywhere you can collect some material right off the bed rock is where I would go as well. Also keep track of where you getting the most black sands in your pan. That indicates where heavy things like to collect like that chunker gold! Good luck and don't give up! Took me about 4 trips to find my first piece. Once I did my life changed forever lol. Hope it's for the good. At least I'm getting outdoors, plenty of exercise and something I can pass onto my son when he gets old enough. He already seems to love it lol! Also is there known to be gold in that river?

yeah welcome from Pennsylvania USA

What Terry And Fullpan said and my advice is to follow along the red line and test pan every 8 meters or so.
