Hello all,

Newbie here from Virginia. Vacationing in Florida and took my Tesoro Silver Sabre uMax out on the beach for the first time today! I haven't swung a MD since I was about 12 years old, and I purchased the Silver Sabre on eBay almost a year ago (Virginia laws are not really MD friendly). Not a bad first day: about $1.75 in clad, a 1 cent Euro, 2 cheap earrings (no stamps), and possibly my best find- what appears to be about a 2 karat diamond in a white gold/platinum setting! It's passed a few tests, but I am not 100% certain if it's genuine or not. Needless to say- I'm hooked!

Oh yeah- and tons of pull tabs, bottle caps, and beer cans were removed from the beach today during my beautification effort. I hope the diamond checks out!

Way to go! Congrats. Hope it turns out to be what you hope. Maybe you can take it to a jeweller near to where you're staying. Who knows maybe you'll be able to pay for the vacation with that one find! I'm currently in Hawaii on vacation and I'm hoping to find some jewellery as well. GL and HH!

Welcome to t-net! Let us know if stone is a diamond - and congrats! :hello2: :headbang: :hello2:

I grew up in Henrico County, later lived in Charlottesville for 20 years, but that was before I got into detecting. When you get back home to Virginia, try asking owners of older properties for permission to hunt their yards, woods or fields. That way, you can avoid any restrictive laws about detecting public property. You can offer to share finds with the owners. With Virginia's long & varied history, you'll dig some fine surprises there! :cat: Andi

Congrats and welcome!, Hope it is a diamond!

Take it to any jeweler, they will tell you if it is real or not, good luck!

Congrats on that big ole diamond, There are plenty of places in Va to dirt fish, lots of local and state property, but I agree with asking home owners at older houses for permissions, they always have the best stuff if you can find some off the beaten path. I have a local teacher of mine in the area that has been detecting for 30 + years in front of me, everywhere I want to go or try to go, he has been. I have found I have to get creative to find virgin sites. But there are plenty out there to be had.
Golden Years, Charlottesville area here. Lots of history in this area.
Silver sabre, where at in Va?

Best of luck.

Mark

Thanks for the good advice all! Stewie- I live in Bristow, VA (right next to Manassas).

I hope to take it to a jeweler soon, and will let you all know what I find out!

Hope it's real... What a find!!!!!! Congrats to you...

Nice fun there, wish for beaches out here but we are land locked he-he pretty much! What is it a diamond stud earing? Cannot see the ring part in photo if there is any, also cannot load the larger version as usual here, why folks don't ever crop nowadays is beyond my ken , will always be cursed with low bandwidth out here, low tech areas(censored mumblings) !

Oh if it is a DSE heres a picture of one that is definitely real and old was her mothers , who bought the set with insurance money as a memorial to her mother. See link for picture =) Hope you enjoy it =)

Great find! Thanks for sharing...

good luck and happy hunting... and welcome to the forum, lot of good people here.

Thanks again all! I took it to a jeweler this morning and turns out it is a genuine CZ. Not a total loss though- the jeweler valued it at around a hundred bucks! Not bad for a couple of hours on the beach yesterday- that's about half of my initial investment in the first two hours.

CoinandRelic sorry about the photos, and I found the CZ in a ring setting- but no ring.

Still a nice find congrats! It could have just as easily been the real deal! GL. HH! Enjoy your vacation!

Went back out today and found this earring- not gold after all, but I'll keep hunting! Also found another $1.54 in clad- and did my part to continue the beach beautification effort with several bottle caps/pulltabs removed.
