found this at the civil war neighbor hood with my
whites mxt at about 8 inches and a very iffy signal-still has nice gilt and the knot of thread is still attached to back shank.
unfortunately i cant read the print of the mfg. on back-even with a loop and my glasses
HH All!
Congrats on your button. Check out this site where I posted how to clean the back so you can read it. You can see the before and after picture I posted. The aluminum jelly works great on buttons. Just use a toothpick to work at it.
Yeah, I'd be crazy wanting to know what the back of the button says too. But worried over how to keep that piece of thread attached. :P Wonder if you could put a dab of baby powder on the back of the button (while it's dry) and work it into the little crevices of the letters with a toothpick? You could look in the cleaning forum. Might be some good info there.
Anyhow, super find! Congrats!

Actually, I think your button is the model used directly after the civilwar. You can generally tell by the angle of the wings on the button. Notice yours are at about 9 and 3. These were made from 1875 to 1902. Still a nice find.
