I got out Friday evening to get a hunt in before the rain moved in. I went to an area close to the house that I go to often, and door knocked at a house built in the late 1800's. There is some great people here that love history and appreciate the hobby, they love to talk about days gone by and places that used to be around. I have to be careful not to spend my whole time talking, but it is great research that is just handed to you. I ended up with a handful of clad, 12 Wheats, 1917s Merc, 1910 & 1911 V Nickels, and an 1898 Indian. I have found many different types of CW lead in other yards in the area, but this is my first Williams Cleaner, and was happy to see it in the plug! As I was hunting I had two neighbors come by at different times and talk about the hobby and give me permission to look around their places. One of the guys showed me a Minnie Ball and a UCV token he found on the surface at his place The square nails were given to me by the home owner, he told me they came out of an old church that was being torn down. They told me to come back and hunt anytime, and would like to show me some of the old stuff they have collected over the years. It's nice to be able to share the passion for history and for the hobby. I went back out on Sunday in between the rain and found the Tiger Eye button and an 1891 Indian. HH David

Nice finds Great hunt that was for sure...

Sooper Dave - you are indeed in a cherished location both with finds and finding friendly charitable folks to talk with and share with!!! That has to be a pleasure to have friendly folks there!

Your finds are great! The square nails were either unused and found between walls of were removed very carefully, I've found a few like them myself in the California gold fields. I assume that is a brooch, the silver/gold looking item, and it is most striking. My best wishes for further great hunts and conversations with these kind folks................63bkpkr

:treasurechest:Nice finds there!

Thanks. Southern Hospitality is still alive and well around here. I mainly door knock and it makes it nice to be welcomed with a friendly face, it probably helps that I'm a native Tennessean :dontknow:

Thanks Erik. It makes a good hunt a great hunt when you can share it with folks who love history. :icon_thumright:

Nice finds Dave! What are your cleaning methods on the Indians and the V's?

Thanks. On non key date indians and nickels, I just use a very soft bristle toothbrush with some mild liquid soap and water. Gently brush away the dirt under running water. On one of the V's I hit it with an SOS pad but the other had a lot more detail, so I left it alone. I DO NOT RUB OR BRUSH any silver coins because it will scratch them. I carry a medicine bottle with soap water and drop my silver in it until I get home. Most of the dirt will be off the silver when I get home, just a quick rinse and dab any dirt with a Q-tip. Every coin is different so be careful when cleaning. :icon_thumleft:

Great finds there Sooper Dave!

Sounds like you found some sooper nice friends too! Great conversation like that would certainly ease the pain of no finds if that ever happens to you there.

Great finds. I need to get out and door knock like that to find some other places. Thanks for sharing.

Congrats on finding some sweet history! Very nice!

Great outings, Dave. Most folks around here are more guarded when you approach them, but it sounds like your area is in direct contrast. Good luck with the surrounding properties!

Thanks, there are some friendly folks down this way. But I often daydream of finding 200+ year old coppers, silver and other great colonial relics around a newly discovered cellar hole in New Jersey :laughing7: Your blog is done very well, enjoyed reading it and will be sure to check back often. :icon_thumleft:

Great finds and Beautiful photos. This is the type of post I love to read!

Congrats,

Buck
