Decided to revisit a spot where I dug a very nice Denver & Rio Grande padlock a while back, and managed a couple of Wheaties and this claim check.
It reads "Expressmens Union No 1 Denver Col. #240 Claim Check, Duplicate.
My research shows that it was incorporated January, 1891, and from newspaper articles from that period they did business hauling to the Union Depot.
I also found reference to someone who found one up in Montezuma CO a few years ago, with the number "850"
Probably would have dug more, but while I was hunting, I started hearing yelling, and when I turned to look, saw a man approaching me screaming that I wasn't allowed
to be on the property, and he was going to call the police.
It's across the street from a low income housing development, and he was an obvious tenant.
We were given permission to hunt on this construction site many months ago, but rather than have to explain this to the police, and being a Sunday where they couldn't verify,
I decided to just pack it up.
It started getting comical when an older woman walking nearby started screaming at him to mind his own business, and let me have my fun.
Enjoy!

Really like items like that! Very nice!

I'd be happy to find that!

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet tag Carl !!!!! Congrats !!!!!!

Carl. Jeff here. You're not going to believe this but I dug one of those about a month ago. Same exact but mine is #164.
Mine came outta the new park off 44th ave and about kendall. There used to be an old house that sat there and I hit it after they knocked down the old dead cottonwoods. I got a daisy shaped 2 and 1/2 cent token, what looks like a flat button that says 'US BOYS WORKING RESERVE", a cool old key hole plate and a 34d wheatie.
BTW, I think there is a good chance of probing something out there. They have been on hold lately with making the park....maybe hit it. PM me if you want more info and NICE FIND! HH

Beautiful Claim Check Carl. I like the 'Col' abbreviation for Colorado as that was used earlier than the present 'Colo' or 'CO'. Also with the recent renovation of Union Station, it brings thoughts of its important early days. Nice safe, Cindy ps Jeff, Cool find, hope claim check is in good shape also.

That is a very nice tag. Congrats on the great find.

sweet find, and thumbs up to the woman who had your back :icon_thumleft:

Hey Jeff, sorry taking so long to respond.
Cool that you found one as well, and I'd love to see the token, how many scallops?
Still researching, just haven't found much more info.
Carl
