This is new for me but probably not for many of you. Found it at a dump site I've dug before, but went back to out of boredom. Also pulled 2 blob-top stoppers, 7x 1930s amber whiskey bottles, and an aqua pint Ball mason jar.


Saw the inscription and thought it was the pocketwatch company; actually, "Elgin American Company" is a whole different entity completely unrelated to the Elgin National Watch Co. Elgin American made watch cases and makeup compacts, because back then compacts weren't made to be disposable. Elgin American's president, Allen Gellman, was a former employee of the Illinois Watch Case Co., also located in Elgin, IL. I gather it was a small company whose brand rode the coattails of the more famous Elgin Watch Co.
