I searched a box of Nickels and found a few odd items. Out of one box I found 3 foreign coins, one game token, one buffalo Nickel, and one Nickel that is dated 1942. All of the war nickels that I have found have a prominent mint mark above the dome. The one pictured below does not. Why?:icon_scratch: I have googled around around enough to think that this is either a counterfeit or an alternate version that is not silver. It is my understanding that the way to tell is by examining the text at the top of the reverse. Any thoughts?

I do not know why I can't get other pics to be larger but I have attached all three for people to take a look at.

Not all 1942 nickels are silver. Yours is not.

Ahhh! The blasted non-silver 1942! They always get my hopes up and then you flip them over. Playing with my emotions!

The "Wartime Silver Alloy" nickels were minted starting in Oct. of 1942. Your 1942 nickel (one of about 50 million minted) was minted before that month in 1942; easily noted by the absence of the "P" mint mark above the dome.
Don...

The Korean is 50 won, not .50, but 50. They have high inflation. The 20 Swiss rappen is worth a little over 20 cents in exchange.

tobad it wasnt a silver!
