... Of American nickels. For those of you who read my earlier post about seeing someone dropping off lots of nickels at a bank, I went back yesterday and got all $120 worth the bank had. They didn't have a nickel box so they put the rolls in a quarter box. To be honest I am counting 70 rolls they gave me but they only charged me $120 so right off the hop I get an extra $20, I noticed this when I was half way through searching last night. I guess they need to count a little better and pay closer attention next time :evil5:.
So yes, I got 12 solid rolls of american nickels, I just have a habit of keeping american nickels, pennies and quarters, dimes are too common. Let me tell you, the guy who owned these before me was a strong smoker.
I found 3 pounds of pure nickel, which is a little less than average.
The older american nickels I found are as follows. 1939, 1940, 1957D, 1959, I then found some non proof S nickels, 1968S, 1969S, 2x1970S. Those were the first S nickels I have found from the 60s and 70s. Can anyone tell me how common they are and the mintage.
I found about 20 young queen elizabeth nickels. 1941 George VI, 1951 George VI refinery commemorative nickel.
All in all I am glad I went back and got all these because now I can probably put together a nice Jefferson nickel collection.
Also I found a 1967 centennial rabbit ender and a 3 dimes.

Merry Christmas to all and hopefully christmas brings you good finds.

congrats on the finds

Here's a link to the mintage figures of Jefferson nickels:

http://www.bestcoin.com/jefferson-nickel-mintage.htm

the '68S & '69S nic's actually have relatively low mintage figures for nic's (just over 100m) but they are still only worth fv in cir. cond. - but they are still worth saving (so is the '68D if you find any - mintage 91m) - esp if they are hard to find where you live.

the '39 & '59 Jeff's are good finds too. The mintage for the '59 Jeff is only just over 28m.

Merry Xmas & HH :icon_santa:

None of the american nickels are too valueable, though I keep all pre 1960 nickels.

Nice catch. To be nice, I would drop off the extra $20 back to the bank because trust me, they KNOW at the end of the day whether they are short or not. This can establish a trust between tellers, and perhaps a better relationship with the bank.

Just my 2 cents.

Have a merry christmas,
BuffaloBoy :icon_santa:

That is a good amount of bullion nickel per box. About 30% more than I usually find in a box. Good Jefferson finds there. I only found 2 S non-proof nickels up to day. It feels good when you find a dime in a nickel roll. Opposite of finding a penny in a dime roll ;D

I would bring the extra $20 to the teller when you get the chance, as Buffalo said it will set up a great relationship with the bank. HH

I agree with Buffaloboy's suggestion that you give the teller back
the $20 she shorted herself. It will go a long way for you with
the bank and good "Karma". Just my suggestion.

Most pre-'82 Canadian nickels are 99.9% nickel. I wish I could find more of them. :)

Here's the wik. page that shows the comp. chart for the different years:

thank you. :-)

The pure nickel coins are worth a little over 8 cents and it is something I always must keep. They are sort of like copper cents only worth more. When I started searching nickels last year they were worth a little over 12 cents, but nickel has gone down in value.

And the next chance I get I do plan on taking the $20 back but the banks here don't open until wednesday.
