Decided to do some more nickles today. Picked up $100 as well as some pennies at one bank, and then another box of nickles at another. Searched the first $100 already, Ill do the other box later. Nothing super, but one strange discovery. Picked up one CWI roll, and noticed it looked a bit faded. Peeled it open and layed out nice shiney new nickles. Then I realized they wern't 08s. These are 2005. Upset I opened it, I shoveled em into my bucket, and noticed another roll that resembled that one. Found 3 more 2005 rolls and left them unopened. Not superb, but unusual. Hope yall are raking in the buffs, wheats, and silver

That is weird that they tossed in old rolls, I would of thought they move all the old rolls they have before sending new ones... I am sure that it is an automated process and therefore they would have no reason to hold onto older rolls for a couple of years. Even if they were pulled for a sample count, I would imagine they would just toss the loose coins back into the hopper and get rid of them.:icon_scratch:

i have a theory on why old original rolls of coins show up many years later......in the case of my 16 original rolls of Frankies...Kennedy is assasinated....Fed changes halfs from Ben to JFK...everyone loved him and everyone wanted the new coins for keepsakes( this was actually the death of the half dollar in circulation) ...the bank has 16 rolls of the previous years Bens(1963)...no one wants them.....they want the JFK's....the new coins come in and go out....all the while the JFK's are in demand and the Bens get pushed to the bottom of the pile.....i still find it hard to believe they remained there 45 years till i found them but i have no other explaination.....in the case of yours it may be the same....i don't think they rotate thier stock like food and beer :occasion14: the new years coins come in and they're thrown on top of the pile because alot of people want them as soon as they come out.....before they get to the bottom the next years coins come in.....and so on and so on...until you hit them often enough to get down to the bottom of the pile thats where they stay.....just my opinion

You may correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't there a defect on the 2005 bison nickels? I believe that it had something to do with a defect that appears to be a spear going through the bison.
you are correct sir.....it is called a speared bison error

The speared bison was from the Denver mint, these are all Philly. This "box" was not a box per say. I asked for $100, and I got just that out of the vault. It was a mix of hand rolls and Loomis rolls. There are likely more of the older unopened rolls there still. Funny thing is the coins on the ends are discolored. The coins inside are nice and bright and shiney.

That's why proper storage is important....
