I helped my neighbor move. His family hunted Southern Colorado and had three boxes of discards. He let me have them. Quite a variety of bases. I think the black long rock is a chisel. The funny shaped one at the bottom is a button I think. I love the blank and the scraper shows exquisite work. I have never found an axe or a celt in Colorado. This one shows a lot of use. Its smoothed but unevenly. Is this for hand use or attached to a handle? I would love any thoughts on any of these pieces. I have found many examples like the black ones on the right and wonder if they are crude spears. I love the colored chips!! Happy Hunting. I'm not an expert but the axe looks to me it was made to be attached to something. Hand axes I have seen were not grooved in the center. The black ones look like larger broken points or maybe knives/scrapers.

Cool stuff !!!!

I would lie if I could get better pics from the first pic the two on the bottom row on the left hand side.
I would also like to see a better pic of the large black piece.
And I agree the axe/chopper/ bone crusher was hafted.
I guess the old saying is true ......one mans trash........, Nice!

The black one us polished or smooth except for the end. It could just be a rock. It seems well worn though. I am just guessing a teepee button for the hourglass shape one. I enjoy dwelling over what they were used for and how.

Thanks for the better pic's. I thinking the first two pic's the red one would be a Pelican lake, but that is only speculation, with the base being broken. The other Quartzite may be a cottonwood triangle. That black thing I have know idea I can't see if it has any use wear. In hand would be the best to determine.

Really nice grooved axe which would be grooved to attach to a handle. It has a unique shape probably made somebody's day when originally found atleast you were able to save them to a good home rather than possibly being tossed.

The club head was the treasure in the box.
