Found near a place where I have been finding some civil war items but this is the biggest I have ever seen no clue what gun or cannon this might have shot it out of there is a firing primer in the center help me figure this out, just in shock how big it is

Looks like 40 mm grenade shell. Used on military M-16 when I was active duty Air Force. Measure it and see ?

Look up pics of Coffman engine starters. They range in size of shot gun shells to larger all metal casings with primers.
