I went to the bank to pickup my weekly box of halves and when I walked in both tellers gave each other a look that I knew was not good. They forgot to order my box, but the teller that brings my boxes from the main branch said they had a box in the vault and she would bring it for me tomorrow. With no halves to search tonight I asked if they had any nickels or dimes they could spare. They sold me a $200 bag of nickels and a $500 bag of dimes. My wife volunteered to help me start the bag of nickels. I wasn't sure how long she would last, but she pulled the first Buffalo nickel we've found from circulation and that got her motivated. She also pulled a 1959 Proof, the first proof nickel we found in circulation. We also found 21 from the 40's and 33 from the 50's.

Here is a picture of the proof 59 next to a standard 59 and the 35 Buffalo

I'll start the dime bag later tonight.

Great finds!
Can't wait to hear about the dimes!

Nice job Mr & Mrs Fropa!!! Finding a buffalo nickel had to be exciting...Congrats to both of you. Let us know how you come out on the dimes....with the way things are going for ya'll......you will probably pull out a couple of Mercs or Barbers....good luck.

nice finds, good luck with the dimes to

Gotta love the proof coins and the Buffalos are a shock when you pull one of those! Congratulations and good luck on the bag of dimes. Looking forward to the results.

Thanks everybody. It was definitely nice to find the first Buffalo. The bag of dimes was not as good, 3 silver in $500. I found a 1954, 1964, and a 1964-D. It's not a great ratio but any silver in dimes I guess is pretty good. I know they are supposed to be even worse than dimes but I might try a bag of quarters next. I haven't ever looked through any of them so I won't get my hopes up. Has anybody had any luck looking through quarters?

I forgot to mention in the original post that 2 of the nickels were silver. A 1943-P and a 1945-S.
