No Love for F70 ???

Ok, the Fisher F70 seems like a really damn nice coin machine but I rarely hear anyone talking about it. In fact, you'd think the T2 and F75 were the latest models but, from what I read, the F70 is actually the latest model.

I'm looking for a good coin/park/all around machine (and deep with decent TID)... does the F70 not fit this bill?

Everyone keeps pushing me to the ATPro, which I did own and loved, but I'm looking to upgrade from the ATpro. (and btw - Etrac was ike carrying a log around with me - don't want that, though it did perform well)

Any help, please?

I think you don't hear as much about it is it's just not as popular as the 75, being kind of stuck in the middle, overlooked like a middle child. people looking to upgrade tend to go right by it.

I've never tried one in the field so can't give you first hand info about it, but will say this it has the same type size shape coil as comes stock on my Omega, still my favorite machine. and that coil on Omega is a big reason why. I can't imagine any detector being better at separating the goods from amonst trash.

I have some interest in the F 70 or F 5 or even a F 75
And yes I am reading up on the F-70 or F 5 is the latest mod.
Would get the F 5 but not sure of what depth it would track if compared side to side with the F-70 - using the same coil.
Then I read between the lines that the Omega 8000 is the same as a F-70 and all are related to Fisher industries and share software.
Also hear the Gold Bug 2? is great with the oval coil. The new F -19 may be just that.
Rick What can you tell us of your Omega? Which one you use?
Saw many videos on the AT pro and it seems ok but strange the way it is set up. Like it has an after thought for turning on the audio Iron Rejection feature- Isn't that the best feature?

I can tell you I also have an AT Pro, and have used F75 as well as quite a few others, Omega remains favorite. Light weight, only one battery same a my PP, it will find coins to 11 inches. pin pointing is great. It ID's well right to (almost) it's depth limit. The ID's are very stable. The target separation I mentioned above is much better than AT Pro with it's stock coil.

Some will mention is quite noisy due to EMI, can sometimes be true, but I have found most detectors will be noisy at one location or another, so it's not just an Omega problem, in fact on site I was at AT Pro was behaving just as badly, it didn't stop us from finding lots of targets. And often switching freq. helps. I think it is a great coin shooter, relic machine, and it will hit a 2 grain piece of gold at 3.5 to 4 inches, regardless of, or in spite of it having a relatively low freq.

F70's are great. They use the same coils as the 75 series and the 4 AA batteries seem to last forever. People either seem to love them or hate them though. They can be real chatty till you learn how to use them. They bang really hard on coins and other good targets. Once you get to know the F70 you will feel like you are missing very little of what is under your coil. They are very high spirited and you will need to throttle them back at times. Even with sensitivity set as low as 35 and threshold at -3 you can still hit a silver dime at 6" I have only had mine for a year and use a 10" elliptical coil. Other than wanting to add an 11" DD coil I am happy and I won't be replacing my F70 any time soon. I have the f70 and I love it the only thing different from the f70 and the AT pro is you can put the AT pro in water I was out at a local park yesterday and found a nice 925 ring and clad

Why, if you look in the right place the rabid feelings for this thing from some owners borders on the pornographic.
IBdiggin, me, mudpuppy, dbax and many others discuss this thing all the time over on Findmall in the F series forum, I started a log about all my adventures with it from the day I first started swinging it.

I found silver on my first hunt, gold a few hours later and a mess of clad and other stuff in a few of my well hunted sites.
That was with the standard coil, and with that coil I reached 7-8"- regularly on targets with good ID's, and got good tones on targets past that up to 10".
Switching to the F75 11" DD coil deeper targets all the way up to the 15" range started to show up in my great soil.
More silver in the form of coins or jewelry were found very easily, among other great items.
I am so spoiled at this point that if I don't find something great on every hunt or if the F70 doesn't make my jaw drop on what it can actually do I feel something is weird and wrong.
A huge amount of settings available, still experimenting with as many as I can to see what will ultimately work the best for me, and I can't describe how much fun I am having learning this thing.

The F70 was the product of a mission-- to come up with a less expensive adaptation of the F75, while incorporating things we had learned meanwhile. Without "dumbing it down". Because the F70 was advertised for a lot less money than the F75, marketing dept. didn't quite dare to say how good the damn thing really was. Some of the secret sauce we put into the F70 eventually made its way into later revisions of the F75 group of machines, as well as into the Teknetics "Fratbros" series and most other new beeps introduced after the F70.

As the top of the Fisher lineup, the F75 including its revisions got all the attention. That's how the F70 became a "sleeper". Guys like Mudpuppy will never have to wonder if they should have gotten an F75 instead.

This is the same sort of explanation I just posted in "another forum" about the approx. $200 category. If you get a Eurotek Pro, you never have to wonder if you should have gotten something else. Get anything else, and you'll wonder if you should have gotten a Eurotek Pro instead. F70 owners never have to wonder if they should "upgrade" to an F75.

And Dave many of us 70 swingers here and at findmall thank you and your people for that. I am 65 with only 1 year into this great hobby and I regret not starting to detect 20 years ago. On the other hand I am glad the timing was right to acquire the F70 as I would have missed the adventures of this fantastic unit.----------Larry

I bought my F-70 in 3/09 and with all the detectors i have had, including Garretts, Bounty hunters, 2 of each diff models of each.. I use the F-70 all the time now.. this detector near Lake Michigan, only on a very few times have i ever had to ground balance the machine... I get over 40 hours on a set of batteries, thats 4 AA alkaline... I hunt either in all metal on the beach or Disc other places. this machine has never let me down... and like all non water machines I have gone in water just short of the brain box and found rings and coins... It bangs hard on coins, you also can set it up so that you can have 1 tone or 4 how ever it suits you... Its the lightest swing machine that I have had, I hunt with the stock coil, and right now see no need for me to buy any others .. Face it you can find only so much only so deep, and the way it is from the factory goes as deep as i want to dig, I dont want to have to carry a shovel LOL serious tho its a good machine, I have never been sorry that I bought it..After detecting for 30 years, I think the F--70 will be my last detector unless I win something.. Happy hunting .

I'm hoping they added the secret sauce to the F19. I have a GoldbugPro and F70 and others.

If the secret sauce ain't in the F19, I'll stay with my F70. It easily beats the GBP on gold coins, jewelry, and relics.

Granted there's no (practically) gold in Arkansas to test the F19, but then again, the F19 is advertised as "the best relic machine ever".

It's funny, I'd done a lot of research on the F70 since last year when I figured out it was pretty much on par with the F75 at a much better price, and I ordered it the morning Dave J. posted in this thread! Of course that validation made my day, and a little over a month later the F70 is still on my list of all time favorite things I've owned.

I have another question regarding the F70. I'm not use to those elliptical coils since I have only used the circular coil on my CZ5 for many years . How well do those coils pinpoint? Does it pinpoint the target in the dead center or is it better use the toe to heel method? I really like the different tones on those machines since it is similar to the CZ5. Also worried about it being chatty. If it is chatty, can it be quieted down? That would drive me crazy. The warranty is another plus. Not too many companies carry a 5 year warranty. Most are 2 years. Any help would be appreciated since I am leaning toward the F70 myself. Have seen the videos and read what many have said regarding this machine. It does seem impressive.

It's a hot machine. It took me trip after trip to force myself to turn it down. I kept wanting to run 80-90-100% gain, turn it down. I believe 60% is default.

It is the most sensitive machine I've used. My ground balance runs around 57 in my red clay soil. If I've got it cranked up, it'll be chatty because I can't swing the coil perfectly level and there are places in my yard where GB is 57 and a foot away is 54, the sucker will go off swinging across this three point change in mineralization. That's simply how detectors work, change in mineralization.
And you can't crank it up to 100% and run high discrimination level expecting it to be silent and happy like my Garrett. But that's why it's a lot deeper than my Garrett in all metal, running SL mode. And swing slower in SL mode or run DE mode for a while, SL mode is like the boost mode they added to the F75/T2 after the F70 came out.

The 10" elliptical just takes practice to learn where the "X" is. I don't think you can paint a mark in it, the coil is empty there.

I use the 5"DD a lot, it gets amazing depth and easy to pinpoint.

In summary, Fisher let's you run it as hot as you want, with no governor on sensitivity or threshold. I run mine a lot at 60% and -6 to -9 threshold....

Lot of F70/75 users here, ask away.....

Newfiehunter, I use the 11" DD coil (it's the only coil I have for it) and there's a small dot pretty much in the center of the coil that marks the pinpoint spot. If the target is shallow (like 2" or less) it seems that it is found a little bit further toward the toe of the coil when you dig it. Not sure about the concentric or other coils.

As for being chatty, yes, it can be and often is for me, but it's because I often have my settings nearly maxed for as much depth as I can get since I'm always looking to see if I can find something deeper than I have in the past, and I'm usually not far from a power line. But it's easy to make it quiet by running it in moderate or lower settings in the presence of EMI, and you can also switch between one of the 7 frequencies with the Hz button to combat EMI also. It's my understanding that even in low settings this machine will find stuff plenty deep, but I have yet to test this myself.

Middle range detector, F75 Lite.
It's bound to be less talked about.

It reminds me of the Garrett 1350.
One of the very best midrange detectors out there, it never really had a big following. Ditto the F70.

But it's not just the detector - it's you. It's also where you take it.
No detectors will draw goodies from afar.

The F70 will do what you need, if YOU DO YOUR PART.
1. Learn how to use it properly.
2. Take it where there is something to find.

Hey WOOF... you mentioned the Omega a few posts back. How much hotter are the new Omegas, compared to when they first came out? I owned one of the first ones. I liked the detector, but was not impressed with the depth. TIA
