I bought my homestead 2 years ago. It is in the Pennsylvania Wilds and the house was built in 1905.
Today I started cleaning the loft in the barn. Lots of of old rotting wood, cardboard boxes, holiday decorations, etc. All of it will go to the burn pile.
Then I spotted this in a broken piece of wood that obviously was once part of a door.
It is a brass mortice lock and plates. Probably the original house lock.
I cut it out with my circular saw and will definitely be looking for a skeleton key.

Thats a cool find with some significance to you and your home Nice

Cool find in the barn loft. Congrats!

Hello ATW. Nice one. Interesting to see an intact kind of item that I find pieces of from time to time. The design on that thing is too rite.

Thanks for the post and Good Luck out there. C9

Like xaos said it's for a pocket door. It looks like a privacy lock so the key has to be used from both sides. They're usually plated steel. They tend to sell for well over $100 complete so good find.:icon_thumright:

Xaos is 100% correct. Its for a pocket door.

Thats a button on the bottom of the end that engages the lock plate. When pushed it pops out a small handle/hoop (large recessed piece directly above) which is used to pull the door out when its fully recessed into the wall.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Are you sure this is brass?

Recessed like this, it was for a pocket door, not a main entrance door. Notice there is no through hole for the doorknob assembly.

What does other side look like? (same but without keyhole?)

Those are pictures of both sides.
I didn't even think about the hole for the doorknob.
Thank you for pointing it out.

ATW...

Yours is a real one... the ones pictured by xaos are modern re-pops.

Apples and oranges.

Great find.

Key IS the knob.

Thank you AARC,, I have gotten quite an education from Tnet.
