I found these at different times in different locations(all SW Iowa). Not sure how these would have been oriented. I don't know anything about native American symbols or such but I do know these are something done by man. 20200802_081044~2.webp

I know nothing about artifacts, but these are interesting and keepers for sure. Nature can do some strange things. We were prospecting in Vermont. My wife found a rock that looked like a petrified submarine sandwich and another looked exactly like a russet potato. Would love to take the potato to a produce counter and watch the fun.
 
Looks cool, I would've brought them home as well.
 
You are absolutely correct, they are not a coincidence. Still natural, but like many thing things in nature they follow predictable patterns.
 
Sometimes you have to ask if it was native what function would it serve. I’m thinking natural but best explanation I can pull out of my rear would be a type of ammonite shell where the groove would be the opening and the dimple would be the very front of a whorl. When the fossil eroded away it could leave such a pattern... maybe?
