Finally got a chance to give my new AT Pro a real test.
I had planned on detecting an old farm house site but the owners weren't home. "No problem" I thought, "Good thing I planned a backup site!" Well, those owners weren't home as well. Neither were the owners at the backup-backup site! "Fine, I'll just try that Methodist Church down that road. That thing is pretty old." It was also pretty locked up and it's parking lot was pretty empty too. So after three hours of driving around the outskirts of Ottawa I just went to the park I've been to a few times before.
The total haul was $2.67 in clad and two silver quarters (1953, 1937). I couldn't believe it when the first one came up. It was right next to the sandlot and only an inch or two down. However, what really made my eyebrows rise was finding that knife no more than a few metres from the kids playground. The next quarter was hiding amongst some hefty roots. Unfortunately I scratched Her Royal Highness but the coin is so badly worn that I don't feel too bad about it. It also seems to have a little chunk taken off the edge. I do think I scratched the 1937 one a little bit though. Clearly my Lesche-handling skills could use a bit more finesse.
I'm going to withhold final judgment on the AT Pro. It's such a step up from the Compadre that I can't say whether it's as good as it should be. The pinpointer was a little wonky at times, but maybe I was just mashing the buttons wrong. It discriminates MUCH better than the Compadre and I really like the DD-coil. The headphones it came with are a lot more comfortable than the head-vise of my other pair.
