Welcome aboard! Don't but the 250. I'm almost certain you will need a machine with ground balance in VA because of the moderate/high ground mineralization. Do your research there are dozens of different brand machines with adjustable GB, but all the Ace's are all fixed GB machines. The ATPro has adjustable GB if you are set on Garrett. Good luck and HH!

Welcome Aboard! Take a look at Sub-Forums: Virginia for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

Thanks Fletch88! So you are a Chevy guy? ;)
Well I've had them all from the ace 350, AT Pro, Vaquero, Cibola, Tejon, Etrac, CTX and a GPX4800. The Ace 350 good machine even with the bell tones, but my soil here is very neutral. I've hunted in Culpepper, VA with the GPX and CTX. That was the nastiest mineralized soil I've ever seen! I just hate to see you buy a machine that will be all but useless in the tough soils of VA! :)

Thanks vpnavy! Been studying that a bit.

Welcome to the forum. As Fletch88 mentioned, the soil in your area will affect the depth and performance of a machine with a fixed ground balance. Look for machines that have ground balance capabilities. For a machine with an adjustable ground balance, you will need to spend a minimum of $400+.
