Nose isn't the important thing in identifying these trees. Look for:

1. Marks just behind where the trunk turns back skyward showing that the tree had been restrained.

2. Marks under the bend where the trunk turns horizontal showing that the tree had been restrained.
 

Thanks, I'll check for marks of restraints in those two areas next time I'm there. Its hard to see, but just beyond the tree is about an 8 foot drop to a creek. The creek is about 15 feet wide and has gold in it.
 

check for other clues around creek .
go dir tree is pointing cross creek check otherside.
that close to water it wasnt bent to show dir of creek
