Found this brass badge today. I am trying to find out if it is real or a toy. The North West Mounted Police started in 1873 and their name was changed to the Royal North West Mounted police in 1904, so this dates between 1873 and 1904. The badge has no pin on back. I don't know if their was a pin or if this might have been a harness medalion or something of that nature. Any Canandians out there, can you help please. Thanks..Lance

I googled it and got alot of modern toy badges like that, but yours looks more genuine, it could be the real deal ;)

Interesting item... I have never seen a RCMP badge like that before. There are four different types of Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Regimental Badges and none of them resemble that one..

There was a bunch of TV shows and movies in the past with a "Mountie Theme" - One does come to mind: Cecil B. DeMille's NORTH WEST MOUNTED POLICE (Paramont, 1940) with Gary Cooper. Maybe it is some movie memorabilia? Looks old though...

Happy Hunting!!

Nice find, put it on a red piece of felt and it will bring out the luster of the finish and will look great in your display case whether real or not definately an attention getter.
