In all fairness, if I'm going to post my good day finds, then i should balance it out when I don't have such a good day.
4 hour hunt at the old campground basically yielded nothing--an old bent up spoon and a memorial penny(I won't bore you with pics of these). I must have dug every single rusted piece of wire in the entire campground. Also on the dug list: shot gun shell caps, small pieces of rusted metal, small bullet casings, and of course, rusted bottle caps and pull tabs. I was digging all "iffy" signals--hoping to get lucky, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. This site has produced wheaties and silver coins. Maybe it's all hunted out after 8 trips :sad10: Coin Gods are not smiling on me. The pics were taken as the sandstorm was coming in and i was getting out! 7up. HH.

Cool pics (for us on the East Coast)!

Keep at it - HH!!

Those are nice photos! Did you keep all your Junk? .. As the old saying goes, one man's trash is another man's treasure! If you kept it all, post a pic or two just for the fun of it.

I used to live in Tucson. I loved just wandering the desert eyeball hunting for Indian artifacts while hiking. Can you metal detect in the Catalina Mountains? I reckon there's got to be some old stuff up Mount Lemmon. I'd love to get back there some time to see if I could find anything with my equipment.:hello:

Do you still have any of those artifacts?

I doubt it. Like many of my past recoveries they have been "lost" once again into some unknown pile of earth. I seriously need to consider what I intend to do with all this stuff I am dragging home. I do have some very cool and significant recoveries and they would make a nice display in local museums. I just procrastinate about cleaning them up and doing much with them once I discover them. Too busy planning the next assault on the earth looking for more booty to drag home.:blackbeard::skullflag::tchest::tongue1:

I feel your pain. Hopefully your next outting is more productive.

Its good that you got out, nice country, great pictures.

I currently live in a campground, I have found a few interesting things and a couple good coins and one silver ring but it is mainly a trash site. A guy came up and asked me to look for a tiny part out of his 4 wheeler carburetor that he had taken apart. he and the family had already scattered the ton of leaves searching for it. He thought it would a no big deal with my detector but after I unplugged my headset, he was really worried as the trash was unreal. I asked if he had a similar part of the same metal and after about 45 minutes, I finally found it. you probably still have some good stuff there, just have to knuckle down even more. good luck

dirtlooter, you are a good Person. An abundance of human kindness is, unfortunately, missing in today's society, but you prevailed.
BTW, Campers are nice folks.

We all like to share our good finds, but we all have days like that too.

I appreciate you posting still! Sometimes I think all people on this site find every time they go out is rare, old coins [emoji23]

I hear you, I dug 40 shotgun headstamps today, and nothing else. I guess every day can't be a grand slam.

At least your honest about it. Almost everyone on this forum has days like that, we just don't see them posted ! At least you were able to get out, and enjoy some beautiful scenery. That in itself would be the treasure for me (compared to the flat land - non scenic part of Illinois that I live in ) !

"I won't bore you with pics of these."

Well! So much for my posts! Harumpf! :tongue3:

It's all in the perspective. I feel that anything found on one of my walks in nature, *ARE* good ! Simply by the aspect of being out and able! :)

Had many hunts just like it lol.

Not to worry, we all have hunts that yield basically nothing. :BangHead:

Sometimes just the act of detecting is enough. :icon_thumright:

I've been up the Catalinas plenty of times. Found some wheaties--that's it. There's an old boy scout camp up there that has been pounded to death. Same with the other obvious areas. Tucson has a large retiree population--some who md and have lots of time on their hands to devote to the hobby and do research. All the obvious places have been pounded to death. Regarding the catalinas i have heard members of the local md club say they've found a few silver coins up there.
