Although it looks like it’s from a ballpoint pen. From a late 1700-1920’s farm field. Back looks almost like a sprocket chain link. Brass.

I would guess it to be a type of express hook. They were used in horse harnesses. Often riveted to leather or a steel band. There were many designs. Here is a photo of one style.

This one possibly could be from colonial times. I found one once upon a different life ago on a Rev War battlefield.

I was thinking a wing window lock, but it looks like it has already has an I.D.
