This puzzle was sent to me by my brother to help solve.

He is a gun guy , a friend of his gave him this old wooden flat box thinking it was a gun box.
The “stick in the spokes” is the handle on the lid for carrying.

Also the inside material does not contain a “footprint “ from a long gun.

My observations
Locking mechanism does not look that old.
How old would you say the mechanism is?

Here are my questions:

What is it?
How old?

What do you guys think?
Thank you in advance!

old case for some type of music instrument. Many had the blue interior.

I agree. There's nothing in there to hold a gun in place.

Like for a xylo or maybe a keyboard.

The wood is very very old. I tend to agree with a musical instrument case
However regarding a xylophone case.:

Here are some variables that are different and can not be applied to the case in question

1. Most cases are angled to th shape of the xylophone

2. Xylophone case has a handle on th side so that it can be easily carried

3. Please note no side handle on the case in question

4. Here is the handle that throws this whole thing out of whack

5. Most xylophones are too wide at their widest part to fit this case which is +/- 8” see $5.00 bill for scale

This tells me that whatever is placed in the box needs to stay flat not on its side.

Regarding a keyboard. This case is supper old the only type of keyboard that I can think of is an old typewriter for the period of the cases age and we know that’s too big. A modern keyboard synthesizer would fit but that could only happen in time travel..LOL.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR INPUT
