Found these in an old mining area here in Montana. Not sure how old they might be. The bullet looks to be 57cal. 462gr. The casing was not found with the bullet but a few yards away and looks like it could hold that bullet. No markings on the casing that I could find.

The bullet is a Civil War Minie ball, the casing is more modern, possibly 45-70, but too small to shoot a Minie.
 

yep, I think thommy nailed it. it's a .58 cal civil war minie ball. nice find!

Is it possible a civil war Minnie would have made it's way Montana ? I would sure love to think so.

Confederate deserters and supporters of the confederacy were both present in Montana during the civil war.
