Went to a new site today that has been pounded but got a few keepers. The large cent is an 1819 with notches in it, maybe made into a kids toy or something, also got a nice dropped musket ball, top of a key and some buttons. Does anyone have any info on the maker of the lewis and tumes button? never seen this backmark before. Thanks for looking.

LEWIS & TOMES - 1820-1832

ANY marke coin is a GREAT find!!!
Congratulations on an unusual one!

Edward Lewis was a London England producer, apparently formed a partnership with Francis Tomes operating in New York starting 1819. Tomes then operated under various names and making a variety of military goods through the Civil War.

Great finds!!

looks like you also got a pocketwatch winding key (not the larger key, but the item to the top left of the first photo).  And is that a gold ring in that photo too??

Great finds!

Thanks for the ID on the pocketwatch winding key, I have found them in the past and never knew what they were. The ring is plated, very cheap.

Very nice finds!!! I would love to find a large cent, I have not found one yet. HH!!

I have found coins like the large cent also in my area,i think it was a way for them to use the thin part of the notch to fit in small flat head screws like for gun parts and other things . A easy way for them to carry a very small screwdriver at all times... Just a guess, they had some reason because yours makes about the 12th one i have seen with the cuts like that ........Great find, and im sure others will add their 2 cents :icon_sunny:
