I bought my wife a machine and after only three or four uses and less than 10 hours she found a very heavy mens bracelet. It is marked Italy .417 which I assume is 10k. Since 10k is 41.67% pure. In years of doing this I never found something this nice. Anyway I was happy for her and 10 times more excited than she.The next day at another place I finally struck gold. An 18K with small diamonds anniversary ring! It is kind of petite but the best piece I have found. Anyway I wanted to share this. It leads to a lot of questions.

1)How do you put a value on this stuff?
2)Who buys it?
3)How do you know if you are getting a fair value?
4) The gold could be weighed but do you guys have a special scale?
5)What about silver? It isn't worth much by sheer weight when it comes to rings.
6)I know some would say keep everything but I was thinking it would be nice to cash in and put toward a water machine. What do ya think?

Midwest Refineries is one of the best places to sell your scrap gold as you will get 94% of spot price. Accurate gram scales are used for finding the weight. One formula I use for my own use is (Spot Price X % paid X Kt. weight, divided by 31.1= price per gram. Price per gram X total weight of item= amount you will get, Approximate. Hope I got this corect from memory.

Other rings can be cleaned up and sold as is to friends, relatives or given away for gifts. Selling them at work to co-workers is fun since you can tell them later that the ring has a curse on it. ;D

Thanks for the advice on Midwest and the formula.I found a nice scale that has all the weight classifications on line. Can't wait for it to come in. I will know where I stand that way on weights. It weighs in carats also but where do you sell the diamonds? I am reading about diamonds a lot but am afraid that I am really at their mercy other than the weight. What about the little diamonds? Are they worth much? Do you take them out before scrapping. How do you get the little buggers out? For the big claw settings it is obvious, but the little ones are they glued in or what? Does anybody know a fair place to sell the diamonds big or small? What about the fake rocks are any of them worth anything? All the stores do is test it and tell you it is or isn't a diamond but I understand Moissanite is expensive and maybe quartz is.I have a fake that looks real nice. Seems it would be worth a few bucks. What about CZ? For your replies I Thank-you!
