Nutmeg bottle, trash/outhouse finds!

I dug this this outhouse this am and found this nutmeg bottle. I can't find anything similar so I thought I would share it. It has a pinched lip!! Lots of junk came out of this trash pit I had been digging earlier. I found a whistle and this crock you might have seen on today's finds. I am pretty proud of this jug. Happy digging. Some outhouse pits around here are very shallow. This one was 4 feet deep and only took an hour or so to dig. The trash pit was on the other side of the yard and I could waste days there getting sore and dirty not finding much. I was happy to find an outhouse pit.

Cool finds.

The nutmeg ‘bottle’ is actually the base reservoir part of a miniature oil lamp known as the “Nutmeg”, missing its brass handle. Generally these date between about 1870-1926 and were made in clear, milk, green and cobalt glass, embossed with the brand. There are later reproductions which include other colours.

Thank you for your help Red -Coat, I should have figured that out by the neck, but it is small for a lamp. I am excited now to find parts for mine. I appreciate the information!!

Thanks Njklagt, it was in such nice shape, full of iron barnicles when I pulled it out. Picture perfect for me! I couldn't be more happy with it. I spent some of my childhood in Denver going ice skating and to the Market on Larimer St.

What a bombshell! The intact handle makes it. Even if you get skunked the next few digs, this is the kind of find that keeps you satisfied for a while.

I tried to find something juicy for you, but couldn't find "The American Liquor Company" of Denver. I found "The Denver Liquor Company" on Larimer, here it is in the 1880s. I wonder if they eventually changed names, or if "The American Liquor Company" of Boston had a store in Denver, which is totally possible.

The premises are listed in the directory for this 1908 map of Denver, at 1900 Larimer Street as: "American Liquor Co, whl [ie wholesale] liquors."

Thanks for the photo NJKLAGT, that find sure gets me excited to dig more. Because the address is 1900 it must have been on the corner. It would be nice to have a collection from Larimer Street. There are quite a few but they are rare.

Nice one, Red-Coat! I didn't think the jug was as early as the storefront photo, this 1908 mention makes way more sense, and the name is an exact match.
