What is this used for? Fire starter ?
Talking about using bow drill to start fire. The omars are mistaken often by people new to artifact hunting as artifact, they are natural.

Yes it is sandstone which is partly what gave me pause. It definitely could just be an Omar from my research. I just thought it strange that the pits would be nearly perfectly on opposite sides from each other…

As for being new to artifact hunting. I definitely come under that category as well!😀

Just so you know, it was not meant as any kind of put down or insult... we have seen omars posted fairly often over the years.

I understand and no offense at all. I come here to learn and I want those with experience to be honest with what they see. Thanks for helping me ID what it is!

Man-made dimples do appear in stone tools ? Is that correct ? I have a few ergonomic stones with dimples. They are actually net sinkers. Not a notch but dimples where my pointer finger lands naturally. Any info would be appreciated.

Need in focus pictures of different sides. J

ust FYI, native Americans did not make finger grips or dimples/holes for fingers. It is the marvel of the human hand.

The nutting/ pitted stone is still a mystery as to the use of them. The ones I’ve found have a pit on each face just like the one you have posted. They are usually hammer stones and will show some use ware on one or both ends from pounding. The divots are pecked in and aren’t naturally formed. We don’t have Omar’s here. As for the use of the divots they’re not known. I believe any rock would do for a hammer without the divots.
I can’t tell from your photos if yours are natural or pecked in. It could be a Omar
