NW Arkansas skirmish site

I went to an old book store in Fayetteville that had a massive collection of Arkansas history books. I picked up a book called Borderland Rebellion by Elmo Ingenthron. It covers all the action during the civil war that happened in this area, from Fort Smith to Wilson's Creek and Carthage. I noticed this map and saw that there were skirmishes all through the area. One in particular caught my eye... Elm Springs. I wasnt aware of anything happening in Elm Springs. I am wondering if the road referenced in the map is Hwy 112. I think this may be a good "undiscovered" site if we can put the pieces together and figure out exactly where this took place. I have been reading up on the Civil War history in this area for 3 years now, and this is the first I have heard of this. Please post your thoughts, I was pretty excited to discover this today.

It was acroos the stree from Bordino's on Dickson St. Yes, they have a boatload of local history books there. When you walk in, you will tke a left then go to the aisle before the stairs. I found my books on the middle shelves.

I know that there was large CSA camp in elm springs. The camp sits along the highway dont know any actions in the area.

I thought I would try to get this thread active if anyone is interested.

I have not heard of a CSA camp in Elm Springs. The largest one I know of is around the Cross Hollow area in Rogers.

There was also a pretty fair skirmish fought in Spriingdale. The battle took place between what was known as the Fitzgerald home and the Holcomb home. The Fitzgearld home and cemetary are still standing. The Holcomb home is gone, but was located near the current site of the Bluff cemetary. I believe the battlefield borders would basically be Old Wire Rd and 71 business and to the north and south between Huntsville Ave. and Randal Wobbe.

During the battles of Springdale and Fayetteville all of the homes where burned down. I read somewhere that Springdale and Fayetteville where the first towns to be burnt down during the war.

There is a Historical Markers in Elm Springs talking about the encampment and the skirmishes. You might also be interested in Old Wire Rd East of Lowell. This area is where Lowell originally stood. There were threes skirmishes there. The town moved closer to the rail line after a tornado came through and leveled the town. Once upon a time it was a hopin' little town.
