Obvious button, but from when and what kind???

Just popped this button out of the ground in southeastern MA. It appears to have an eagle with outstretched wings and a complete shank on the back. I haven't cleaned it yet, but could someone ID this for me and maybe show me a link to a clean one lol? Thanks so much for looking!!

You have a Great Seal button that was first produced, I believe in 1902? Used in US military uniforms, made by several button makers. Maybe the back will give you the maker's name.

That is called a Great Seal button. They were adopted in 1902 and are still in use to day for the US Army. If you can read a backmark someone will tie the day down a bit closer for you.

Thanks for the help! I can only make out a few letters in the back but they lead me to "the Austin Company, Providence RI". I can't find too much on the company yet to narrow down a date or war era.
