I know this lesson all to well... but I rarely take advantage of it, thinking I have better sites to hunt... Our local high school was built in the 1920's and before then maybe some houses were there but it is out in the open and in the middle of town you'd think everyone that passes through would of stopped to hunt this area... as did I... but nothing is ever hunted out and in fact some places are not hit that hard, or at all... this is what I found over the last few days, 4 to 6 hours of total hunting... granted its not a lot but its what makes us keep going back for more...

Starting with clad... 4 quarters 11 dimes (3 were dropped the first day by the girls that were playing there watching me) 8 nickles 8 memorials and for the better stuff... 1940 & 1945 Wheat and a 1944 Mercury. :icon_sunny:

For the non-coin finds we have lighter (1950's-1960's?) a baseball medal, a military eagle button (WWII?)... a 1976 Montreal Archery Olympic medal, (a trinket?) and sterling silver ring that was almost smashed flat... had to unfold it to see if it was silver.

There is still several hours of hunting in that area to do...

Looked at your finds. Guess I taught you well. Remember, I suggested you hunt that area. Still more there. Congrats. Looking forward to saturday.

Very nice... I envy folks like you that can hunt schools... Here in Florida, you would think the schools were medium-security prisons, and they are not accessible.. I have to wonder if they have so many child molesters and thats why they do it... Florida is a pretty laid back state in general, like most of the south, but when it comes to schools, man, they seem to think that kids will get snatched every day..
I am thinking of trying to hunt the HUGE playground/lot area of my local grade school once they are out for spring break. Usually there are maintenance people or even teachers around during their breaks, and with no kids around, they really shouldnt care. Besides, the mayor told me that there were no laws preventing me from MD'ing on ANY city property, so at least I cant be arrested for trying it... But, they may ask me to leave...

You will find a lot more there I have a feeling... Good luck!

Nice finds. That military button is WWI vintage. No telling how it got into a schoolyard...

gratz on the finds i would section off a square at a time with some string and hit it hard and slow im sure theres a hoard of coinage and jewlery there good luck
