I just got my new silver uMax and am a beginner. I live on the Oregon Coast. I researched my choice on here and I thank everyone for my choice.
After digging in the sand it really spoils you, it's so much more easy to dig then the dirt. The uMax has done well in the dry ocean sand but I need some more advice on working with it in the wet ocean sand. I understand it's not a water or wet sand machine, but this is what I have now...so i need to adjust to the wet sand as well as I can with it. Are there any others using the uMax in wet ocean sand?

Wellcome   to  T  net Bluesky .. You could  upgrade  your umax to a MD has a waterproof  coil. I hear a lot good things about the  umax .I do beach hunting  only, I find  digging in  the  dirt  harder as  well. A great beach MD would be Sovereign Gt By Minelab ,Thats what I use  for  the dry and  wet . The tiger shark by toroso would  be  a  good  choice as  well and  a little  easier on your  wallet. for just a few hundred  dollars  you  could upgrade also take the  Md  in the  water, for  shallow water hunting ,,The tiger shark is  waterproof down to 200 feet  .. I just  bought  a  SandShark , there fine  detectors . Also,  You won't have  any trouble  selling  your  umax.. good  luck  and  HH  Guzz1

Bluesky, your coil is water proff so don't worry bout getting the coil wet. However the control box is not so don't get the control box wet. You can hunt in the wet sand as well. Ground balance just like you would for dry sand or dirt. When the detector starts to chatter from to much salt or iron in the wet sand turn the sensitivity down until the chatter goes away. Yes you will lose some depth but you will be able to hunt and find the good stuff and that's what counts. Other then that buy the Tiger Shark too if you can afford it. Good luck and Happy Hunting

Desertfox ,,, Thanks for the input there. I wasn't sure if the coil On the umax was waterproof or not . didn't want to give wrong advice ,, Thanks guzz1

Welcome to TN.

Remember to be careful when you set your detector down if you are hunting at water’s edge. Water flows downhill inside the shaft, if you use coil in shallow water and then set it down or raise coil so controls are lower then coil, you can get water in control box. It doesn’t like that at all. :'(
