I know ochre is orange, but can also be red. So I was wondering if these appear to be ochre? I did a streak test and both leave a prominent orange. The more interesting one has a slight depression on the side it can stand up. Thoughts? And as always thanks for tolerating me!

Read something somewhere about ochre crayons, maybe in the Denisova Cave? I have no idea about yours though.

Thanks for the reply! Interesting the way separated cultures make use of the same resources. Regardless, having thought, I don't think I found anything. Interesting the different scales of hardness and properties of minerals. Probably not Ochre, but a person can Dream. Thanks again!

Hematite is the stone used to make the ochre pigment. Hematite is very dense and relatively heavy. Do you know if it’s naturally occurring in your area?

I am not aware of an abundance of hematite. It’s probably nothing, and my mind trying to find artifacts were there are none. Thanks for interest regardless!
