Your Horseshoe Plaque Trivet is an IOOF trivet … the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. This organization was brought from England to Boston in 1819 and is a group united in Friendship, Love and Truth - the Three Rings Of FLT, as depicted on your trivet. Peaking at 3.5 million members in 1915, the organization declined sharply after the Depression and is still active today, with about 500,000 members nationwide. here is another link http://www.worthpoint.com/blog-entry/horseshoe-plaque-trivets-victorian-good-luck-mementos

You pretty much got it Trader. :icon_thumright: top right pic very similar... his looks bronze.

From your link: The majority of Horseshoe Plaque Trivets were manufactured from the mid 1800s through the early 1900s, peaking around 1890. They all share the basic horseshoe shape. Beyond that, designs varied according to the theme. Some were carnival prizes and might still bear traces of their original glitter. Others were fraternal emblems, lodge favors, commemoratives or were purchased as gifts. The American Eagle was featured atop many of these plaques, and Good Luck was a favorite sentiment.

what's this made of mojjax
It is definitely iron that has been painted a brass color . There is a crystalline sparkle to the shoe area and the chain links , but , a magnet sticks to all of it .
