I haven't seen a half like that, but got a dime just yesterday that was all cruddy, and the rim was sunken in. I scraped the date to see if it was silver, wasn't, so I spent it, lol.

Do you mean the clad center is like an oreo cookie?

I was metal detecting a drained lake once by a bridge. I found a lot of clad quarters that looked like that. The lake water was probably pretty acid and ate away the copper all around. But didn't eat the top and bottom, looked like a cookie sandwich.

Now if the rim is just warn very smooth, you have a slot machine coin. Running through the slots will do that.
