Odd old (?) metal object

Found this odd thing in my back yard while playing with my new detector .
It's heavy for it's size ( 4 inches ) , hollow , 2 slots in one side . Has some engraving on it . VERY hard to read , *may* say Reliall ? or possably Reliabb ?
Under that has the following :
SOL
STR
PAT 2144050

Any ideas

The pat. # is for an electrical line splice patented in 1939:

I'm thrilled to have found it .
I'm very new to MD'ing . Have been learning with an old Whites coinmaster . Had such fun I upgraded to a used DFX . So this is my first DFX find and oldest find to date .

I have one of these but it has glass center. Same patent number. Is there any significance to the center being glass?

Can't imagine one of these with glass. Look up Reliable splices and see if the one you have is similar.
