A 1919 silver franc but it has a very strange raised rim? I assume somebody inset it into a ring for a pendant or ???? They didn't have crazy raised rims did they? In looking further I suppose it could have been minted this way buy wow...never seen such a proud rim. Little bent up.
Also, I assume this is a carriage reins guide? Great afternoon, the top of my field was ice the other day but it has allowed another day of digging.

It looks like the franc was being turned into a coin ring. That would explain the rim...
nice finds

Hmmm...yeah I googled coin ring trench art....guess it was a thing. Never would've guessed that. It would explain why it's bent some. The year would fit.

Nice!!!! Congrats!!!!

Yup ! I've made a couple of rings by that method,
("upsetting the rim") The new method is to knock the center of the coin out with a disc cutter , then put it into varied sized cone shaped dies, to turn it from flat "washer" into a ring . Nice find !

My dad has a nickel like that. Said he made it by tapping it with a spoon!

Cool find! I concur with everyone saying it looks like they were starting to pound it into a coin ring and then maybe lost it before they were finished? Or maybe it didn't go as well as they hoped and they chucked it?

I agree, it's been "spooned." Cool coin!

A unique find - congrats !
I found a Large Cent a few years ago that's hammered evenly all around the edge and has the exact same shape as your coin.
I never thought that maybe someone could have been trying to make a Ring out of it - I just thought they were just messing around.

Thanks for the info. & Good Hunting !

pretty cool find for sure

That is a neat coin find.

Thanks ...I looked up coin rings and watched some YT videos on the subject.....awesome. I agree somebody gave up on this one, seems like it would be an awful dainty ring. You'd need a slender finger I suspect.
